Home Remedies for Dry Itchy Scalps

Home Remedies for Dry Itchy Scalps

Dry itchy scalp is among the worst nuisances. It can cause flaking and dandruff as well as discomfort and embarrassment. Dry itchy scalps do not have to be a consistent pain. Some of the best relief can be provided by simple DIY treatments at home! That means no doctor appointments and no added chemicals or preservatives.

Scalp can become dry and itchy when it is not lubricated enough. Certain shampoos and hair products can aggravate the scalp and strip it of necessary oils. If you suffer from dry itchy scalp and don’t seem to respond to drugstore products, go back to basics and try some natural remedies.

Apple cider vinegar is extremely popular for relieving dry and itchy skin, especially eczema and psoriasis skin. Mix one part ACV and one part water in a spritzer bottle. Spritz the solution into dry hair and wrap it up in a towel. Let the solution soak in for 15 minutes to an hour and then rinse and shampoo normally.

Lemon juice is also a great remedy. Squeeze the juice of one fresh lemon and massage it into dry hair. Leave it in for 15 minutes and then rinse and shampoo normally.

If you have broken skin on your scalp, the ACV and lemon juice will sting and possibly irritate your sensitive scalp. In this case, try using tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has been used for hundreds of years as an antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal treatment. It will sooth the broken skin and reduce any dandruff. Keep in mind that tea tree oil should be used sparingly. Try mixing three to five drops with your shampoo and lather as usual.

Supplementing these DIY treatments with natural hair products will increase their effectiveness. Dr. Marder’s Total Relief Shampoo and Conditioner uses a natural, sulfate-free formula that also includes 1% hydrocortisone to offer immediate relief and long-term results with continued use.
